Blues travel to AFC Rushden & Diamonds for first league game in 3 weeks

Game 28/42.

Leiston visit AFC Rushden & Diamonds this weekend in league action. The Blues are still in 10th position in the league, 12 points off the play-offs now. It will be their first league game since the visit of Hitchin Town at the end of January. Leiston progressed to the semi-finals of the Suffolk Premier Cup on Wednesday evening, reaching this stage for the 8th successive season. Tom Bullard (calf) is struggling to be fit for the match, while Seb Dunbar is suspended after accumulating 10 yellow cards and will serve a two game ban starting tomorrow. Patrick Brothers picked up an injury on Wednesday evening and will also miss the match. However, Dominic Docherty is back fit and Josh Hitter will be able to make his first appearance after he was Cup tied in midweek. Noel Aitkens is another player that Stuart Boardley has at his disposal on Saturday.

Saturday will be Leiston’s first ever visit to The Hayden Road Sports Ground in their history. Earlier in the campaign at the beginning of December, the ‘Diamonds’ defeated Leiston 4-1 at Victory Road. Early goals from Albie Hopkins and Tom Lorraine put the visitors ahead that day before Christy Finch pulled a goal back just before half time. However, second half goals from Ben Diamond and a Ben Farrell penalty gave them the points. AFC Rushden & Diamonds currently sit in 8th position, having accumulated 46 points from 28 league games, with a healthy goal difference of +17.
