Blues head to Worcestershire for first ever visit to Alvechurch

Game 19/42.

Leiston head to Worcestershire on Tuesday night for a first ever meeting with Alvechurch. Although the Blues recovered the other day from two goals down to gain a point at lowly Bedworth United, they dropped to 12th place in the league table. They will still be without the injured Dominic Docherty, while Christy Finch and Jake Reed are unavailable. Alvechurch won on Saturday away to Lowestoft Town 2-1 and are currently 5th with 30 points from 18 matches.

'The Church' were founded in 1929 and reformed in 1996 and folding in 1993. Alvechurch reached the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup in 1971 after five Replays in the 4th Qualifying Round. They eventually won 1-0 in the sixth match. The tie lasted for eleven hours making it the longest match in the history of the FA Cup and is included in the Guinness Book of records. Alan Smith, the former Arsenal and England striker, and David Kelly, who played for Wolves and Republic of Ireland are ex Alvechurch players. They were promoted to Step 3 football after coming second in the Northern Premier Division One South last season.
