Jake Jessup signs as the Blues make their first signing of the season

Leiston have signed Jake Jessup from Needham Market as the Blues make their first signing of the season.

Jessup has signed a one-year deal, with the one-year option at the end of next season. Aside from Needham, Jessup has also played for Chelmsford City and Lowestoft Town.

Speaking to the EADT and Archant earlier, Jessup, who is 6ft 6 in and is 25 years old, said: - ‘I’m really happy to be going to Leiston. It keeps me maintained at the level I want to at least be playing. I was surprised when Needham wanted to release me, but now I have a job to do at Leiston and the manager is building something that will be exciting. Next season may require a bit more patience from fans at Leiston with younger players coming through, as they have lost a few senior players, but that will all be good in the longer term.’

Jessup concluded: - ‘I work for Norwich City, so playing for Leiston is also helpful logistically. I’m really looking forward to it and delighted to sign.’

Blues manager Stuart Boardley also told the EADT and Archant: - ‘Around March time, we had an idea Marcus (Garnham) maybe leaving us at the end of the season. They are both top keepers. I’m over the moon to get him, he’s at a great age and very experience and it’s the first of a few more senior players on the way to add to our good young squad. We’ve had to fight off competition for Jake, so I’m delighted.

Everyone at Leiston FC would like to welcome Jake to Victory Road.
