Match 1/42.

Leiston start their season on Saturday looking for a good start after a poor run to the end of last season. Although Leiston won the Suffolk Premier Cup at Portman Road in May, they finished the season drawing just 4 of their last 11 league games, losing the other 7. Coalville missed out on the play-offs last season although Leiston defeated the Leicestershire outfit 2-0 on the opening day of last season, thanks to goals from Christy Finch and Chris Henderson. In the reverse fixture, the Blues drew 2-2 with ‘The Ravens’ with Matt Blake firing in two goals.

Both teams met in the FA Cup at Leiston in October 2008, which the Blues won 1-0, courtesy of manager Stuart Boardley’s penalty. Coalville themselves missed a spot kick in the second half. In March 2011 however, Coalville got revenge in the FA Vase quarter-final on their home patch, going through with a 1-0 win.

Stuart Boardley will be missing Jake Jessup and Noel Aitkens (Aitkens is due to return at the start of September) while Ryan Sharman is out injured. The management team will also be hoping Spanish duo Albert Serra Parrondo and Sebastia Pons Llado will be available to play. On a positive note, new signing Kyran Clements from Braintree Town will go straight into the squad.

This is the start of the Blues 8th season at Step 3 level, with Leiston enjoying a first season finish of 12th. Since then they have finished 9th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 5th and last campaign 19th.
