Blues confirm signing of striker Jake Reed

Blues boss Glenn Driver has been given a big play off boost after clinching the signing of striker Jake Reed. The 26 year old has agreed a two year deal after a deal was agreed with Bostik Premier Division rivals Lowestoft Town. The Trawlerboys have struggled for most of the season in the bottom half of the Division but that has not stopped Reed who has netted 14 times in the League this season and is one of the top strikers in the Division.

“It’s a terrific signing” said an excited Driver. “Jake is a very good striker and a proven goal scorer. He has everything you could wish for in a striker, holds the ball up well, runs behind, good feet, good in the air, the full package. At 26 he is coming into his best years and I'm looking forward to working with Jake. I have no doubt Jake will be a fans favourite and I'm sure he will settle into our way of playing” continued Driver.

It’s not the first time the Blues have targeted Reed, they were unsuccessful with an approach for his services while with Great Yarmouth back in 2011 just before Reed signed for Dagenham & Redbridge. After 2 and a half years at Dagenham the Lowestoft based striker returned to Lowestoft Town, had a brief spell at AFC Sudbury before returning to Crown Meadow where he has been top scorer for the past few seasons.

“I really enjoyed it at Lowestoft and had some good times but it’s time to move on and time for a new chapter” said Reed. “It’s a good move for me to a club looking to get in the play offs. I’m really excited to get going at Leiston and hopefully bring some good times to the club.”

Paperwork pending and weather permitting Reed should make his debut for his new club on Tuesday evening as second placed Margate are the visitors to Victory Road.

“Jake is a great addition to our squad and gives us a massive boost for the rest of the season and beyond” said Driver. “We have brought him in to score goals and his track record proves he is a very good goal scorer. I would like to place on record my thanks to Chairman Andy Crisp and the Football Club for allowing me to make this signing and also thanks to Dale Brooks and Lowestoft Town for their support and the way they have handled the transfer.”
