Blues midfielder Patrick Brothers to depart after Cup final against Felixstowe & Walton United

Patrick Brothers will be making his final appearance in a Leiston shirt in Wednesday’s Suffolk Premier Cup Final against Felixstowe & Walton United.

Brothers will be joining Brantham Athletic as Player/Assistant Manager. ’Patch’, who had another year on his contract with Leiston, approached the club to ask if they would be prepared to let him move to Brantham as he wanted the opportunity to work with his brother and take his first step into management. Negotiations have been taking place and the transfer, for an undisclosed fee, will be completed in the next week.

Patrick joined Leiston in October 2010 and made his debut away to Stanway Rovers in which the side drew 0-0. In total, Patrick has made 370 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, scoring 32 goals.

Patrick, who spoke to the Blues Online earlier today, said: -
‘I have fully enjoyed being apart of Leiston for the last 9 years and its something I will never forget. This is down to people who have been involved with the club with committee members, squad of players, fans and management which have all been brilliant. All have made my time here very successful and enjoyable, whilst making life long friends along the way. I have some great memories of winning back to back titles and reaching the play-offs last season. In terms of scoring goals, getting the last minute winner at Tonbridge Angels to help Leiston get a 1-0 win and scoring at Kettering Town earlier in the season was good on a personal front.
It was an extremely tough decision to leave, but I would like to thank Andy (Crisp) and Boards (Stuart Boardley) in their roles in making it possible. I would like to wish them both and the rest of the club all the best in the future’.

Manager Stuart Boardley said: -

‘Patch has been a pleasure to play with and manage and been a great servant to the club. His a fantastic player and we will miss him both on and off the pitch because he is a great guy to have around. We wish him well at Brantham in his new adventure in management.

On behalf of everyone at Leiston FC, everyone wishes Patrick all the best for the future.
