Blues online caught up with Patrick Brothers in the week.

Last week the Blues online took time out to speak to long serving Blues player Patrick Brothers.

Positions:- Midfielder.

Age:- 28.

League/Cup games for Leiston:- 342 (up to and incl Cheshunt (H) in FA Cup)

League/Cup goals for Leiston:- 30.

Patrick joined Leiston in October 2010 and played his first match away to Stanway Rovers, a game Leiston drew 0-0 just four days after going out of the FA Cup to Dartford. Patrick has since been a regular name on the team sheet helping Leiston win the Ridgeons Premier Division and Ryman (now BOSTIK) One North league.

What are your thoughts going into your ninth campaign as a Leiston player Patrick?

PB - To be honest, I’m not sure about too many of the teams in terms of their history/players they have. It’s a different league to what we have been used to. We have a strong squad again this year and there is no reason why we can’t match last season’s achievements and indeed do better.

What have been the highs/lows in your Leiston career so far?

PB - The highs for me would definetly be winning back to back promotions. I think we went something like 36 games unbeaten in the league the first year I was there. Winning the Ryman One North Division we went on a 26 game unbeaten streak in the league from the end of October 2011 to middle of April 2012.
The major low would be losing to Dulwich Hamlet in the play-offs last year after playing so well for periods in the match. Losing to Westfields in the FA Cup being one match away from the First Round Proper is also up there as we had all the play but couldn’t score get that first goal. Losing at the death (Westfields scored an 86th minute winner) was hard to take.

Who are the best players you have played with in your career at Leiston?

PB -
Leon Ottley-Gooch. If he wasn’t so unlucky with injury, then I honestly think he could have made it as a pro.

Gareth Heath. 7 seasons of scoring lots of goals from midfield (5 seasons netting at least 20 in total) and one of the fittest players I know.

Joe Jefford and David Head. Two old school centre halves, that are consistent week in week out. Both chipped in with goals as well.

Who are the best players you have played against?

PB - Erhun Oztumer. Played for Dulwich Hamlet now at Bolton. Far too good for BOSTIK league and proved it, now playing in Championship. Jermaine Pennant also because his played in a Champions League final so best player I’ve played against.
