Steve Foley joins management team

Leiston F.C. are delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Foley to the post of Head of Coach Development with immediate effect.

Steve needs no introduction as he is known throughout the game as a highly respected coach and he will bring his wealth of experience to the club as we seek to develop our club structure over the next few years.

Steve has been involved in the game for nearly fifty years, firstly as a professional footballer. He made over 300 appearances for Colchester United and then after retiring as a player he has been involved in coaching and management at Colchester United, Watford, Norwich City and Ipswich Town, both at youth and first team level.

Steve worked with Mark Morsley as First Team Coach in the 2012-2013 season at Leiston in the Blues first season at Step 3 level and more recently he has been working at Needham Market FC in a variety of roles, the latest being Academy Manager.

Having met with Trevor Elmy, Director of Football, and Ian Cornforth, Head of Player Development and Reserve Team Manager recently, it became apparent that the opportunity to bring Steve into the club was too great an opportunity to be missed.

Steve will work with First Team Manager Stuart Boardley and Ian Cornforth to help develop and improve the coaching within the club, as well as taking sessions on a regular basis for the EJA teams.

First Team Manager Stuart Boardley said: - ‘We are delighted to have Steve on board for the coming season. His experience and knowledge of the game is second to none and is undoubtedly the best coach I have worked with throughout my career. He will be a huge asset to this football club and we are really looking forward to the new season with Steve at the heart of developing our young players and coaches’.

Reserve Team Manager Ian Cornforth said: - ‘We welcome Steve’s experience and knowledge of nearly 50 years involved in the game. His thousands of hours of coaching will be essential and myself and other managers/coaches at the club will be looking to benefit under his leadership’.

Steve Foley said on his appointment: - ‘I’m looking forward to getting back involved in the game and I will be at the club on a full time basis taking sessions every week’.
