'The Lambs'go nap as Blues suffer another defeat

Leiston fell to another defeat and dropped a place to 16th as a result of the weekend's 5-0 loss to Tamworth. The visitors, who had a poor start to the season, have found form of late that has seen them catapult to the safety of mid table. The Blues were missing Matt Blake and Dominic Docherty but welcomed back Noel Aitkens and Matt Rutterford into the squad.

In glorious sunshine and 20 degree heat, Jordan Clement had an early shot which was deflected and it fell into the path of Janaai Gordon but Charlie Beckwith blocked the effort with his chest. Leiston's first opportunity arrived when Josh Hitter had a headed chance but the ball went wide. The hosts took the lead in the 12th minute when Gordon picked up the ball from distance and found Beckwith's bottom right hand corner. Home skipper Joel Kettle had to replaced by Jordan Gough halfway through the half with Ryan Beswick taking the captain's armband. Seb Dunbar's good run allowed him to set up Will Davies just before the half hour mark but Jas Singh made a fine save in the Tamworth goal. Chances were at a premium before the break with both sides having a couple of chances go wide of goal.

Joe Jefford had to be replaced at the interval by James Gaffer but it was Tamworth who grabbed the second goal just two minutes into the second period. Jack Concannon whipped in a cross from the left and it got a flick off the head of Leiston captain Tom Bullard and Fortune Maphosa steered home from close range. Maphosa was then booked along with Byron Lawrence as sub Chris Lait made Beckwith palm the ball around the post. 'The Lambs' made it three in the 72nd minute when Gordon hit the crossbar and Jack Concannon finished well. A minute later, and Lait grabbed his 20th of the season as he striked home on the edge of the penalty area to make it four. Kyle Hammond forced Singh into a save as time started to tick down, but with five minutes of normal time to go, Lait finshed off a good move to give Tamworth the nap hand. Lait and Concannon tested Beckwith in stoppage time but the Beckwith saved well on both occasions.
