Stowmarket Town 1 Blues 3
Under 18's return to winning ways
Leiston could have taken the lead after just thirty seconds but home goalkeeper Alex James kept out an interception by his own defender Finlay Jordan-Smith. However, Leiston would open their account in the third minute when Jamie Smith’s cross from the left was met by Jac Garrard who placed into the net from close range. Liam Swann had the hosts first effort on goal but Charlie Beckwith dealt with it easily. Carl Mayhew shot just over the crossbar and Joe Murphy had a strike deflected just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Toby Groom put in a teasing cross from the left which resulted in Toby Chenery getting on the end of it but it went wide of the target. Toby Chenery himself had a mazy run down the right flank moments later and delivered into the box which saw Jamie Smith header wide. Charlie Beckwith saved Louis Fargher’s attempt on the Leiston goal, while Toby Chenery saw another shot go straight at the keeper. The last chance of note in the half saw Ben Skipper curl a free kick over Charlie Beckwith’s bar.
Jac Garrard had Leiston’s first chance on target of the second period, while Jamie Smith volleyed wide as Leiston could not find a second goal. They would double their lead though when Alex James’ goal kick fell to Jamie Smith who ran at goal and tucked under the home custodian to give Leiston some breathing space. Sub Owen Pierce could only find James in the home goal shortly after, but Stowmarket would pull a goal back when Louis Fargher finished off a good move. Leiston were finding it really difficult to finish off the match, but would eventually round off the proceedings in the 75th minute when Carl Bowers found himself one on one with Alex James and he deftly chipped the keeper to make it 3-1. Leiston had other chances but there were to be no further goals in a disappointing and somewhat lethargic performance, but the U-18’s still top the table after completing half of their league games after this game.
