Cup Final disappointment for a fourth time

The Blues wait to get their hands on the Suffolk FA Premier Cup goes on after they were second best to Lowestoft Town at Portman Road. The Trawlerboys, who suffered relegation from the National League North just four days earlier, produced a dominant, slick display to secure their thirteenth Premier Cup win. Despite a decent start the Blues never looked like ending their wait for the counties top prize and its now four successive defeats at the home of Ipswich Town. There was little between the sides until the Trawlerboys took the lead on 25 minutes and it was a soft goal to concede. Centre half Spillane not only found himself unmarked but he had all the time to simply side foot an effort across Ashlee Jones' six yard box and into the corner. Whilst Leiston battled manfully they suffered a second sucker punch in first half injury time. Joe Jefford was penalised for a foul on Bammant and the experienced Crow smashed a fine effort high into the net via the far upright giving Ashlee Jones no chance. Just like the first half the Blues started the second half strongly but they could just not fashion a clear sight of goal while Lowestoft always looked a threat going forward. With twenty minutes remaining 16 year old Adam Blades made his first team debut and showed some excellent touches and movement in his twenty minute cameo. The impressive Rob Eagle, who was pulling the strings in the heart of the Lowestoft midfield, then crafted the third Trawlerboys goal, showing some great skill down the left hand side of the box forcing Leon Ottley-Gooch into a trip. From the resulting spot kick Ashlee Jones saved Marsden's spot kick but he was powerless to keep out the follow up from a tight angle. In second half stoppage time Man of the Match Leon Ottley-Gooch nodded in a consolation, scant consolation for his tireless display but Lowestoft lifted aloft the Suffolk FA Premeir Cup on the final whistle, retaining the trophy they won a year previously.
