The Blues host Brantham Athletic this evening in the Endeavour Automotive Group Suffolk Premier Cup 2nd Round (Last 16). It’s the third home game out of four at home in a row as Coalville Town visit on Saturday in league action.

Leiston put in a decent showing against higher opposition in the form of St Albans City at the weekend but departed the Emirates FA Cup, going down 2-1, with Kieran Higgs on target for the Blues.

The Blues won the competition back in 2018 and 2019 respectively, and it will be their 55th match in the competition tomorrow night.

Their first match was against Brantham in the competition in 1986, after the club were invited into the Suffolk Premier Cup having reached the final of the Suffolk Senior Cup that same year. Leiston drew 1-1 at Brantham but won the Replay 1-0 at home.

After that season, Leiston didn’t play in the competition again until 2004, when the side lost 1-0 at AFC Sudbury in the First Round.

Needham Market have won the Cup in the last three seasons, beating the Blues in 2022 in the final on penalties after the game ended 0-0 at Colchester United FC.

Brantham Athletic are currently 15th ( out of 20 sides) in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 5 league games thus far.

If the game ends level after ninety minutes, then the game will go straight to a penalty shoot out.

There is only one other game tonight at this stage of the competition as Hadleigh United host Mildenhall Town.

Ipswich Wanderers are the only side to progress to the quarter-finals so far after they beat Woodbridge Town 1-0 last Tuesday evening.

Other games in the 2nd Round: -

Lowestoft Town v Walsham-Le-Willows
Lakenheath v Felixstowe & Walton United
Long Melford v Needham Market
Kirkley & Pakefield v Stowmarket Town
Ipswich Town v AFC Sudbury.

Meanwhile, the U23’s are on their travels at Framlingham Town. Framlingham are currently third, having won seven of their opening ten league fixtures, although they have lost the other three. The U23’s are 17th, but a win tonight could send them up to 12th place.

Other games in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North this evening: -

Stanway Pegasus v Whitton United
Diss Town v Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers
Haverhill Rovers v Needham Market U23’s.
