Leiston returned from a long trip to the Sussex Coast with three important points. Two goals in eleven first half minutes extended Richard Wilkins' side unbeaten run to five games as they moved to the fringes of the play off places and into sixth spot. Short of the suspended Stuart Boardley, injured Danny Cunningham and unavailable Scott Mitchell the visitors took a 19th minute lead from Joe Jefford as he scrambled home from a Gareth Heath corner. The lead was doubled on the half hour when a Gareth Heath free kick from the edge of the box found the net via the slightest touch off team mate Darren Mills wrong footing Rikki Banks in the home goal but the goal was Heath's and his 20th of the season. The returning John Sands saw a volley go inches wide as Leiston pressed. Lewes improved after the break and a great Leon Ottley-Gooch clearance off the line denied Jordan Badger before Danny Gay thwarted Badger's header. Jack Rowe-Hurst saw an effort clip the top of the bar as Leiston defended their first half goals. A frustrated home sides misery was complete late in the game when Tom Davis was dismissed for his second yellow card. Leiston know a win or draw at Billericay Town on Monday will see them into the play off places.
