Game 1 (out of 42): -
The Blues head to Halesowen Town tomorrow afternoon in their first game of the season in the Pitching In Southern League Central Premier. It doesn’t seem that long ago since Leiston lost 2-1 to Nuneaton Borough in the play-off semi-finals at the end of April earlier in the year, but we finally start again!
August starts with six league fixtures (3 at home and 3 away) with Leiston playing Berkhamstead and AFC Telford United in the league for the first time ever. Darren Eadie and Chris Wigger have a fully fit squad to choose from for tomorrow’s opening fixture.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: - The Blues drew 0-0 with Halesowen Town in March 2019, as Leiston visited the Midlands club for the first time ever. Earlier, that campaign in October 2018, Leiston won 4-0 in Suffolk with goals from Jake Reed and Byron Lawrence, before Matt Blake and Christy Finch turned home spot kicks late on to round off the scoring. These are the only two meeting between both sides.
FUN FACT: - Paul Joinson is Halesowen’s highest appearance maker and also the clubs highest scorer. The player made 658 appearances whilst netting 368 goals.
Halesowen were promoted last season through the play-offs in the Northern Premier League Division One. They beat Coleshill Town 3-1 in the semi-finals before
they won 2-1 in the finals after extra-time.
Halesowen Town have won the FA Vase twice before, against Fleetwood Town in 1985 and in 1986 they defeated Southall 3-0.
