The Blues face their first home match tomorrow when AFC Telford United visit (3pm kick off).

Leiston will be hoping to improve on last week’s opening day defeat to Halesowen Town, when they lost 2-1, with summer signing Jamar Loza on target with his first goal for the Blues. There are no injury worries going into the first ever league meeting between the two clubs.

AFC Telford beat Royston Town 3-0 on the opening day and will be hoping for a good season after being relegated from the National League North last season.

The two sides did meet in Suffolk in October 2020 in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round Qualifying. The Blues beat Halstead Town (5-0, H), Biggleswade Town (5-1, H) and Leighton Town (2-1, A) to reach that stage and the game was goalless after 90 minutes. Leiston eventually won 9-8 on penalties, with Sam Donkin making the winning penalty save.

AFC Telford United were formed in 2004 after AFC Telford folded due to financial problems. They won the National League North in 2014 and played in the National League for a few seasons. They reached the 2nd Round of the FA Cup in the 2014-2015 season and have reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy twice, in 2009 and 2019.

Meanwhile, the U23’s head to Holbeach United in league action. Three defeats from their three league fixtures leave Leiston bottom of the Thurlow Nunn First Division North table. Holbeach have won one and drawn one of their first two games to date.

Last season, Leiston won 3-2 at home with Adam Mills, Joe Marsden and Sergio Asemota on target before losing the return fixture 4-0 back in Lincolnshire.

The U23’s finish August with trips to Great Yarmouth Town and Diss Town and also home games against Needham Market U23’s and Dussindale and Hellesdon R.
