The Blues head to AFC Sudbury this evening in more league action. It’s the first time the two sides have met competitively for six seasons, having last played each other in November 2016.

Saturday’s defeat saw Leiston drop to 16th in the league standings, with the Blues just two points outside the drop zone. Sudbury are third from bottom at present in 20th place, two points below Leiston. They went down 5-0 at Mickleover on Saturday, a place where Leiston lost to a couple of weeks ago by the same score line.

Leiston first visited Sudbury in October 2004 in a Suffolk Premier Cup tie, with the home side winning 1-0. This was the first time Leiston played in the Eastern Counties Premier Division, having been promoted the season before in third place in Division One.

The same season, Leiston lost 2-1 at home to AFC Sudbury and also were defeated 3-0 away from home in April 2005.

Leiston got their first ever league win against tonight’s host in November 2005, winning 4-2 at Victory Road. The sides met in the league also in the Ryman North in the 2011/2012 season, with the Blues drawing at home (1-1, with Sudbury scoring in the last minute) and winning 3-2 in January 2012 at Sudbury. This win was part of a 26 league game unbeaten streak which was between October 2011 and April 2012. The last time the sides played in the league was the 2016/2017 campaign. The Blues won 2-1 at home and 3-1 away.

After tonight’s match, Leiston are on their travels again on Saturday when the side head to Leicestershire to face Barwell before hosting Hornchurch in the FA Trophy the following weekend. October also sees home games in the league against Stourbridge and Kettering Town whilst the Blues head to Alvechurch and Hitchin Town in the league respectively.
