Leiston host Stourbridge in the league today just after playing them three weeks ago, in which goals from Jamar Loza and Joe Marsden (2) secured a 3-1 victory in the Midlands. Stourbridge are currently 16th but are nine points above the relegation zone as the season begins it’s conclusion. The Blues are tenth after no playing for eleven days now. There are only two league games in March after today as Leiston head to Stamford (Saturday 23rd) before hosting Berkhamsted (Saturday 30th). There is no game for the Blues next weekend. Chris Wigger and Darren Eadie’s side head to Ipswich Wanderers on Tuesday night to face Felixstowe & Walton United in the Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup semi-finals. (7.45pm kick off). Jamar Loza will be missing the best two league games due to an accumulation of ten bookings throughout the season so far.
The Blues first met Stourbridge in Suffolk in December 2019, with the Midlands opponents winning 3-0. Stourbridge defeated Leiston in March 2020 also, winning 1-0, leaving the Blues fourth from bottom but play was halted due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. However, Leiston did beat Stourbridge at home for the first time in November 2021, thanks to two goals from Finlay Barnes as the Blues won 2-1. Reece Styche netted a late consolation goal from the penalty spot for the visitors. Last season, in October 2022, Barnes again put Leiston ahead but Lee Vaughan levelled with virtually the last kick of the game to earn a point for Stourbridge.
