Game 17/42.

Leiston hope to get their league campaign back underway tomorrow night when they head to Hitchin Town.

It will be the Blues first game for 13 days if they play tomorrow evening, after games against Nuneaton Borough and Needham Market have been postponed recently.

Hitchin Town currently reside in 4th position in the league table, with 33 points from 19 games after having an excellent season so far. The Blues remain in 16th place after games over the weekend, one point above the relegation places but the Blues have three games in hand on fourth from bottom Royston Town. Leiston are also on their travels next weekend at Bromsgrove Sporting.

The sides met for the first time in November 2018, with the Blues looking like securing a win on a cold evening after going a goal behind. Tom Bullard and Joe Jefford looked like they had won it for the Blues, but a late leveller in the 93rd minute saw Hitchin nick a point. The next season saw the game abandoned at Hitchin after 37 minutes, with the rain affecting the game. The score was 0-0 at the time. The game wasn’t replayed as COVID hit the country shortly later.

In October 2020, Will Davies and Liam Jackson looked to have won the game for the Blues but Hitchin scored two late goals to gain a 2-2 draw. The following season, Leiston won 3-1 at Hitchin in the FA Trophy but nine days later, lost 4-1 in the league. On another Monday evening last season, second half goals from Will Davies, Finlay Barnes and Ben Fowkes saw Leiston to a 3-0 win.
