Game 16/42.
The Blues head to Alvechurch tonight in league action looking to build on their three points and comeback against Stamford. Chris Casement’s late free kick (his second in as many league games) on 94 minutes was enough to give Leiston all the points after George Quantrell and Ross Crane’s goals restored parity after conceding two early goals.
Alvechurch drew with Kettering Town on Saturday, the point leaving them 16th with 20 points from 16 games. Leiston are 19th after Saturday, but a win this evening would take the Blues out the drop zone.
The Blues host Nuneaton Borough now on Saturday afternoon, a fixture that originally was at Nuneaton but was changed to Leiston last week. Leiston will now head to Needham Market on Saturday 9th December, another fixture change, with the game brought forward from Boxing Day. Away games at Hitchin Town and Bromsgrove Sporting follow before Stratford Town visit Suffolk on Saturday 23rd December, in the Blues last game of 2023.
Leiston first made a trip to Alvechurch in March 2019, with Matt Blake on target in a 2-1 loss that night. The Blues picked up a point in March 2020, just before the COVID outbreak, drawing 0-0. The two other games have seen Leiston lose 2-0 in October 2021 but the side drew 3-3 last season. Leiston were 3-1 up but the hosts got two late goals late on. Wyatt Hill and Will Davies (2) netted that day.
