Clark double helps the Blues return to winning ways

Leiston ended their mini barren spell with a two goal win at inform Brentwood Town. The victory ended the hosts recent five game unbeaten run and ended the Blues four game winless run. Billy Clark claimed both the Blues goal, finding the net for the first time since early November as Richard Wilkins side mirrored their September victory over the Essex side, completing their second 'double' of the season. The squad was hit by suspension, injury and illness with six regulars absent as the side had a different look about it. In came Jack Baker, Toby Kerslake and Stuart Boardley as the Blues opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Leon Ottley-Gooch partnering Tom Winter in attack. What Leiston didn't want was to concede an early goal on a freezing night but this almost happened inside five minutes but Robbie Rees' in-swinging corner came back off the bar and was cleared. Leiston took their time to grow into the game with only a Kelsey Trotter effort forcing a routine save from Ollie Bowles to show for their efforts. Seven minutes before the interval Freeman had a sight of Ashlee Jones' goal but his cross shot neither tested the Blues stopper or picked out a team mate as the Blues sighed a breath of relief. As an even half closed the visitors had their best chance of the half but Leon Ottley-Gooch saw his header fly wide. Both sides needed the points for different reasons as a tense tussle ensued but it was Leiston who broke the deadlock just after the hour mark. Man of the Match Leon Ottley-Gooch dispossessing the full back before crossing for Billy Clark to tuck away the opportunity at the far post. Brentwood responded with an effort from Ngandu that was fired straight at Ashlee Jones as they began to chase the game but the Blues defended well, looking to counter, a tact that brought dividends in stoppage time as Leiston doubled their advantage and it was that man Billy Clark again with a drilled effort. Collecting a Tom Winter pass, he took aim from the edge of the box and found the net via a wicked deflection to seal three hard earned and very welcomed points.
