More away day woes on the Blues first ever trip to Farnborough

Yet again the Blues conceded three unanswered first half goals as they slumped to a disappointing defeat in Hampshire. The visitors will remember their first ever visit to the Rushmoor Community Stadium for all the wrong reasons as they conceded three goals in an eleven minute spell midway through the first half. The Hampshire side were desperate for the victory as their plight for survival was reaching a critical stage sitting ten points adrift of safety pre match. They certainly turned in a determined display and warranted the maximum points haul. Leiston were again without the suspended duo of Patrick Brothers and Seb Dunbar while neither Stuart Boardley or Gareth Heath were fit enough to start. However, the Blues were boosted by the return of leading scorer Christy Finch and right back Blake Saker. Almost four months to the day the Blues raced into a three goal interval lead in the reverse fixture courtesy of a John Sands hat-trick but Farnborough exacted revenge on their Suffolk visitors. The game started at a decent tempo with Ashlee Jones called into early action making a smart stop to deny Vastsuk. The Blues first real sight of goal came minutes later when Tom Winter latched onto Smith's loose control on the edge of the box but he saw his effort bounce inches wide. The home goal somehow remained intact soon after when a header inside the box somehow went wide of a gaping net. It proved costly as on 27 minutes the deadlock was finally broken with the opening goal going to the hosts. It was well created, a neat passage of passes from a central position saw the ball fed out to the left from where a well delivered cross eluded its intended target but fell nicely to the unmarked Charlie Allen who had the simple task of side footing home at the far post. It was a dream start for debutant Allen and eleven minutes later he doubled his and his new clubs lead. Chasing down a back pass to Blues keeper Ashlee Jones he charged down the attempted clearance and watched as the ball rebounded off his body and rolled into the Leiston net. Its not the first time the Blues had encountered Charlie Allen as his stoppage time goal in August 2014 earned his former club Margate a share of the spoils at Hartsdown Park. No sooner were Leiston re-grouping from conceding two goals they conceded a third. Oyenuga wrestling possession down the Blues left and crossing for Hallahan to volley beyond Ashlee Jones. Yet again the Blues trooped into the interval three goals down setting themselves a huge second half comeback mission. Leiston resumed after the break in determined fashion and almost got themselves a foot hold into the match but Christy Finch's close range effort from a Billy Clark pass was well saved by Bufton. The Farnborough keeper Bufton was certainly more busier as Leiston improved after the break, keeping out Joe Jefford's header before denying Christy Finch with a goal on his return with a great save. But for all their pressure Leiston couldn't force themselves back into the game and the hosts could have increased their lead. Only some fine defending from a combination of Blake Saker and Ashlee Jones denying Vastsuk a goal. As the game entered the final ten minutes Christy Finch headed a chance over and then a fine, teasing Billy Clark free kick went unpunished inside the box as Leiston searched for what was now a consolation. The game ended as it began with a chance for the hosts, Ashlee Jones denying the hard working Vastsuk as Farnborough claimed three important points.
