Blues fourteen game unbeaten League record ended

The Blues impressive fourteen game unbeaten record was ended in Kent on Tuesday night as Glenn Driver's side went down 2-0 to Folkestone Invicta. The defeat and Saturday's results, when the side were not in action, saw the Blues slip to third but with games in hand. The Blues also boasted the last remaining unbeaten record in the whole of the Ryman League but as they say, all good things must come to an end. It could have been a different story as the visitors had the ball in the net early and also smacked an effort against the post before the hosts stunned the Blues with two quick fire goals just as the opening half had ended. On a freezing night in Kent Leiston thought they had made the perfect start in the fifth minute but an Assistant's flag cut short Gareth Heath's celebrations. Despite their seventeenth place Folkestone boasted a solid home record with just a single defeat and they had started well, Patrick Brothers blocking a near certain goal for Ian Draycott but Leiston still looked the more lively. Blake Saker's header from a Joe Francis cross lacked power to trouble Tim Roberts in the home goal and then six minutes before the break Gareth Heath's corner was only half cleared and leading scorer Matt Blake smashed the loose ball against the woodwork. Then suddenly Glenn Driver's side saw themselves two goals down at the interval. First Sam Hasler's far post shot squeezed its way into the net beyond Jacob Marsden and then minutes later a terrific shot from full back Jordan Wright flew beyond Jacob Marsden. Stunned, the visitors resumed but failed to really get a clear sight of the home goal, protected by a resilient side. Patrick Brothers, Gareth Heath and Leon Ottley-Gooch all had half chances but that was as good as it got for third placed Leiston as their fine early season run was ended.

Manager Glenn Driver said after the defeat, "To be honest this is the first time this season where we haven't deserved to get anything from the game. We have competed well in the League and cups but all good things come to an end. We will dust ourselves down and get back to basics and do our best to put another run together. We have some League games coming up at home so hopefully we will be getting back to winning ways in the League."
