Blues suffer play off setback

Recent visits to the Kingsmeadow have rarely been fruitful infact, just the one win from four games at the ground shared with AFC Wimbledon. Earlier in the season the sides shared a thrilling eight goal bonanza at Victory Road, while their were six goals this time around it was not thrilling unless of course you were a home fan. With Kingstonian fighting to stave off relegation, four points from six had given the side and new Manager Craig Edwards renewed hope and this was clearly evident throughout as the K's belittled the sixteen places separating the sides pre match.

The Blues gave Regan Pelling his first League start of the season but within four minutes the visitors were behind. Ryan Moss credited with the goal with the faintest of touches to a Tom Derry shot after Aaron Lamont's effort had struck the bar. The early goal stunned the Blues confidence and despite seeing plenty of possession it was not where it mattered and the side toiled to create anything notable in the Kingstonian final third. The hosts meanwhile, were the complete opposite hungry to retain possession and quickly closed down the Blues making them anxious in possession.

After a frustrating first half the Blues were hoping for better fortune as the second half resumed but thirteen minutes in the hosts doubled their advantage. Joe Turner swung in a corner and Tom Derry rose highest to plant his header beyond Ashlee Jones. The side were struggling for a way back but with their first effort on goal they pulled a goal back. Conor Hubble, on as a substitute for Joe Francis eight minutes into the half, supplied a perfect ball for Matt Blake to race onto to finish well. But the goal failed to ignite the Blues into gear and eleven minutes later Kingstonian restored their two goal advantage from the penalty spot. Tom Derry racing into the box only to be upended by Ashlee Jones with Ryan Moss sending the Blues stopper the wrong way from the spot for his 23rd League goal of the season. It was all Kingstonian with the Blues now staring at a sixth defeat in their last seven away games and for the second time this season against the Blues they hit a fourth, Shaun McAuley finding the top corner with a well hit effort from long range five minutes from time. The last effort of the game came the highlight of the game for the visitors, an excellent strike from Niko Muir-Merchant for his eighteenth League goal of the season, eleventh in a Leiston shirt. It was scant consolation for the Blues and the goal was only the second shot of a frustrating afternoon. At this stage last season, the Blues collected four points from their final three games, boss Glenn Driver will be hoping for a similar return to secure a play off place.
