Leiston made three changes from last Saturday’s match against Staines Town with Armani Schaar, Blake Saker and Charlie Beckwith dropping out of the squad and Regan Pelling, Adam Blades and Harry Lay-Fulcher all coming in respectively.
In picturesque settings, Leiston started the game brightly and dominated possession. Matt Blake had two excellent chances with home keeper Josh Pelling doing superbly well to deny him on both occasions. The first was when Seb Dunbar crossed from the left flank to the far post and Matt Blake headed goalwards but somehow Pelling clawed his effort away to safety. Matt Blake’s second was from the edge of the 18 yard box and his strike looked to be going into Pelling’s top left hand corner, but he expertly tipped his shot over for a corner. Shortly before the break, Joe Jefford received a bang to the head and was replaced at the start of the second half by Robert Eagle.
The second period began with Leiston being the stronger force once more and the deadlock was finally broken in the 62nd minute. A corner from Joe Marsden eluded everyone and fell to Patrick Brothers who stabbed in from close range. Leiston could have got a second from Byron Lawrence but his close range header was well saved by Pelling again. Byron Lawrence then shot over the crossbar when a pass to Matt Blake looked the better option. The away side would crucially double their lead with ten minutes of the match remaining when Joe Marsden cut inside from the right hand side and curled his shot into Pelling’s bottom right hand corner. The hosts had a chance to get a back in the match but the shot was deflected onto Marcus Garnham’s crossbar and Leiston comfortably held on for the points.
