Blues back in the hunt after third successive home League win

The Blues moved back into sixth spot and on the fringes of the play off places with their third successive home League victory, all three games with a repeat 2-0 scoreline. It was also only a third victory in eleven against the K's and it could have got off to a bad start as the visitors could have taken the lead in the first minute but Daniel Ajakaiye hit the foot of Marcus Garnham’s left hand post. Leiston’s first chance came when Jack Ainsley laid the ball off for Christy Finch but his sidefooted strike was saved by keeper Rob Tolfrey. Another well worked move shortly after ended with Seb Dunbar firing straight at Tolfrey. Christy Finch created an opening from a long pass but his effort was wide of the target as the hosts began to take control of the game. So it was no surprise when the Blues took a 19th minute. Joe Marsden’s excellent cross from the right wing was met by a well timed run by Patrick Brothers who found the net with an excellent controlled volley low to Tolfrey's right. Chances were kept to a minimum as the half progressed with Leiston bossing the game. In a rare attempt for the visitors Taylor Miles fired over the crossbar from distance but Leiston went into the interval two goals to the good with a fantastic strike from Byron Lawrence. There seemed little danger when the Blues midfielder picked up a stray pass in midfield but two touches later he arrowed home a stinging 25 yard effort that gave Tolfrey no chance and into his bottom left hand corner.

After Marcus Garnham had to punch away a cross early in the second period the hosts resumed where they left off and Chris Henderson had a goal ruled out for offside which looked a very close call. But from here the visitors dictated possession. Marcus Garnham got down well to his left to deny Taylor Miles and then the lively Ambrose Gnahore had two good chances that went begging when well placed. The Blues attacks were now somewhat limited but a good chance did fall to Jack Ainsley but after neatly turning a defender, the makeshift striker could only sting the hands of Tolfrey from twelve yards. Kingstonian continued to create inside the Blues half and Daniel Ajakaiye saw a great chance clear the home bar much to the relief of the home support. A goal then would have seen an anxious few remaining minutes but the resolute Blues held out for the win that lifts them up to sixth place in the table.
