Blues play off hopes continue with latest win

The Blues recorded a fifth straight League victory over their Suffolk neighbours Needham Market for this match SPONSORED BY SZC CGN. Leiston bossed the game from start to finish and but for some wayward finishing would have surely won by a larger margin. Glen Driver's side turned in an excellent performance to see off a hard working Needham Market side at Victory Road to gain three more valuable points in the race for the play-offs.

The home side dominated throughout the encounter and took the lead as early as the fourth minute. Seb Dunbar’s run down the left ended with a cross that was hooked home by Jake Reed at the back post. Byron Lawrence shot just wide of Danny Gay’s left hand post and a couple of more opportunities went begging before Leiston added a second. Tom Bullard’s long pass found Matt Blake who set up Patrick Brothers to rifle home a shot from 25 yards that found the net via Danny Gay’s left hand post. Leiston were dominant and with the wind on their backs were almost camped in the visitors half. They continued to probe and could have added to their tally late in the first half but Kyle Hammond shot just over the crossbar and Jake Reed couldn’t prod home from Christy Finch’s delivery from the right as they searched for more goals to justify their possession.

At the beginning of the second period Jake Reed volleyed a difficult, high cross wide while the former Lowestoft Town striker was then put in the clear but Danny Gay blocked well and Christy Finch put the rebound over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy. Dominic Docherty headed over from close range from Seb Dunbar’s cross and the latter set up Christy Finch moments later but he was thwarted by the impressive Danny Gay in the away goal as he charged into the area. Joe Jefford had a shot blocked on the line while Man of the Match Byron Lawrence rifled strike was stabbed inches wide by a stretching Kyle Hammond. Danny Gay made a fine flying save denying Christy Finch from a header as Leiston pushed the visitors back. Needham had more possession in the second period but they were unable to break down the home defence that recorded a fifth successive clean sheet at Victory Road.
