King's Lynn Town deservedly left with all three points on Tuesday night as an out of sorts Leiston team lost and fell two places into sixth place in a MATCH SPONSORED BY THE DOUGLASS FAMILY. The Blues could have taken the lead in just the second minute as Alexander Street missed kicked a back pass in the away goal but Patrick Brothers failed to capitalise on his error. However, just three minutes later and Leiston hit the front. Kyle Hammond intercepted a King's Lynn player and put in Matt Blake who strode forward with confidence to find the back of Street's net. Lynn's first real chance in front of goal came as Adam Marriott tested Marcus Garnham but he saved well to his right while ex Blues player Chris Henderson headed the rebound wide. Byron Lawrence found Dominic Docherty who tried to chip Street but his audacious attempt went just over the crossbar. The equaliser came in the 14th minute. A good run down the left by Marriott set himself up to get into the penalty box and after skipping beyond two challenges, fired low to Marcus Garnham's right and into the Leiston net. Matt Blake went down after a challenge and had to be replaced by Will Davies midway through the half and within a minute, King's Lynn took the lead. A diagonal ball released Hawkins down the left and he delivered a dangerous ball into the danger area and Chris Henderson headed home from close range. It got worse. Sixty seconds after play resumed, Leiston didn't defend well once again and Ryan Hawkins this time found Garnham's bottom left hand corner from just inside the box. On 39 minutes the visitors had four. The Blues failed to clear a corner and Marriott's driven half volley across the face of goal found the unmarked Gash who had the easy task of heading home from six yards. Right on half time, Marcus Garnham made a flying save to deny Ryan Hawkins.
Leiston defended better in the second half but it was King's Lynn who were once again on top controlling possession. Chris Henderson could have had another goal but he was thwarted by Marcus Garnham. Captain Michael Clunan lifted the ball over the ball over the crossbar when well placed, while in response, Christy Finch shot from the edge of the area was easy for Street. Sub Joshua Moore tried his luck from distance, before Ryan Jarvis and Clunan put chances wide of the target for the visitors. With nine minutes remaining and after Marriott had struck the upright, Tom Bullard tripped Marriott inside the box and Clunan stepped up to complete the scoring from the spot.
Leiston will be looking to put this defeat behind them at the weekend as they travel to Stratford Town in league action.
