Blues gain a point at lowly Halesowen to climb a place to 12th
Leiston picked up a point on their travels at lowly Halesowen Town at the weekend. Patrick Brothers, Christy Finch and Joshua Hitter were all out injured while George Keys has gone to Sweden for the remainder of the season and Harrison Bacon played for the Reserves. The Blues though did have Tom Bullard back in the starting eleven and Byron Lawrence back in the squad along with Will Davies, while Jourdan Kiwomya came into the first team set up for the first time.
Chances were hard to come by in the first half as Josh Cheetham tested Dan Platt in the away goal from distance and the Blues worked another good opportunity ten minutes before the interval as Joe Jefford did well to put in Noel Aitkens but Platt saved well with his legs.
The second half started scrappy and Halesowen had a good chance to open the scoring but Leiston Keeper Marcus Garnham saved well from Aaron Birch and Jack Kelley fired the rebound over the crossbar. Josh Craddock headed a free kick wide of Marcus Garnham’s right hand post as time ticked away and the same player hit the side netting moments later. Platt pushed away a fine strike by Kyle Hammond late on while at the other end, the ‘Yeltz’ could only turn wide a shot from a goal mouth scramble as the points were shared.
The result means Leiston move up a place to 12th, while Halesowen are still second from bottom, eight points from safety.
The Blues now don’t play until next weekend when top of the table Kettering Town visit Victory Road.
