Blues lose to a very good Peterborough side as mini run of 3 matches unbeaten comes to an end

Leiston’s mini revival came to an end as Peterborough Sports moved into the play-off places with a 4-2 win at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium, in a match kindly sponsored by COLDFAIR WEALTH MANAGEMENT and with DALE REVELL sponsoring the Match Ball.

The Blues welcomed Kyle Hammond and Rob Eagle back into the starting eleven while George Keys and Will Davies dropped to the bench.

In a very even first half, John Sands fired over the bar early on before shortly later getting behind the away defence and smashing the outside of Lewis Moat’s right hand post. Joshua McCammon had a strike blocked by Siju Odelusi while the same player shot wide a few minutes later. The match changed when Rob Eagle was deemed to have fouled Dion Sembie-Ferris in the penalty area and Daniel Lawlor fired Peterborough Sports into the lead via the penalty spot on 44 minutes, but the away side were down to ten men at the end of the half as Mark Jones was sent off for a late challenge on Jake Hutchings.

Joshua Mooreman and Dion Sembie-Ferris went close at the start of the second period, but it was the latter who doubled the lead on 60 minutes on the edge of the area. The same player hit the bar but Joshua Mooreman added a third while Kyle Hammond scored for the hosts. However just a minute later, Joshua McCammon added a fourth for Peterborough to finish off the match. In the second minute of added on time, Hammond released sub Rhys Henry and he rounded Moat to give the Blues faint hope but Peterborough saw out the match to seal three points.

FT: - Leiston 2-4 Peterborough Sports.

Leiston Reserves lost 4-2 at Downham Town, a result that put the Norfolk club top of the Thurlow Nunn First Division North. Downham scored three early goals but Sam Allen pulled a goal back for the Reserves just before the break. After half time, Reece Kerry got on the scoresheet but Downham scored another to kill off any hopes of a fightback.
Finally, ‘A’ teams match at Whitton United Sports & Social Club in the Suffolk Primary Cup 3rd Round was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
