Coalville Town 1-1 Leiston - Match Report

The Blues gained an excellent 1-1 draw against Coalville Town on Saturday to gain another point in what is now a tight looking bottom of the table. The Blues welcomed Tom Debenham back into the starting eleven but John Sands was still out.

Leiston were grateful for a late Kyran Clements equaliser to keep the side 18th in the league standings.

The game started brightly for the visitors with an early flurry of corners which saw a header cleared off the line as the Ravens struggled to cope with the aerial threat of Siju Odelusi and Ton Debenham. The hosts finally managed to get their foot on the ball and create several chances. The first was a long range effort from Steve Towers that Sam Donkin did well to hold on in the Blues goal before he was in action shortly after as he stopped Tom McGlinchey. Tim Berridge had a great chance to open the scoring but he scuffed his shot wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy. Berridge went close again with a flick that went just wide but Coalville did open the scoring on 37 minutes. Kalern Thomas crossed and TIM BERRIDGE controlled the ball, spun and volleyed past Donkin in one spectacular movement.

In the second half, Sam Donkin saved Kairo Mitchell’s shot and not long after Donkin saved well again from McGlinchey. Leiston then had plenty of the ball but couldn’t create many chances, but they won a corner late on in the match and from a goal mouth scramble KYRAN CLEMENTS notched his first Blues goal in the 86th minute to make sure the Blues left Leicestershire with a share of the spoils. Glen Drivers side will now look forward to this weekends match at home to AFC Rushden & Diamonds, where the Blues lost 5-1 away from home in their second league match of the season.
