Blues go down to in form Kings Langley on a bad afternoon

Hosts Leiston went down to Kings Langley 4-0 as the visitors made it ten matches unbeaten in the league while the Suffolk side stayed 19th, fourth from bottom in the league standings, in a match sponsored by JET PROJECTS with MALCOLM BAILEY donating towards the Match Ball.

There was a minutes silence impeccably observed before the match in memory of Robert Cassidy who passed away last week. Robert had been a member of the LTAA for many years.

Blues boss Glen Driver was missing John Sands and Kyle Hammond while Zak Brown was with Ipswich Town U18’s.
Mitchell Weiss fired over early on for the away side as both teams struggled to create any clear cut chances. However, a back pass from Leiston midfielder Byron Lawrence let in WILLIAM HOSKINS who kept his composure to shoot into Sam Donkin’s bottom right hand corner.

The home side had a chance to level on the half hour mark as Isaac Skubich played a through ball to Rhys Henry and he took the ball past Melvin Minter but was forced wide and could only hit the side netting. Most of the play remained in the middle of the park and Rhys Henry had an effort deflected wide after good play by Harry Knights and Lawrence.

The second half started off slowly but a poor kick from Sam Donkin saw the midfield of Kings Langley pounce and JORDAN PARKES made no mistake to give Donkin no chance in the home goal. Leiston had a chance to level as Ollie Saunders crossed from the left but Rob Harvey’s header hit the foot of Minter’s left hand post. Sub MATTHEW WHICHELOW superbly shot past Donkin with just over twenty minutes to go to finish the game while fellow sub STEPHEN WARD smashed home via the under side of the bar after a well worked corner to add a fourth in the 78th minute. Late on, Kyle Connolly was booked for a bad challenge on Will Davies with home keeper Sam Donkin booked for dissent.

Leiston won’t have too long to dwell on the loss as Needham Market visit on Tuesday in the Suffolk Premier Cup quarter-final before Royston Town visit next Saturday for an important league fixture.
