Leiston progressed to Monday's Second Round Qualifying draw with a deserved win on the 3G surface at Woodside Road against a spirited Worthing side. Playing against a side a League lower Richard Wilkins side produced a fine display to see off an inform Worthing side, currently fifth in the Ryman League Division South. The visitors were missing strike pairing John Sands and Christy Finch in the starting line up, John Sands still nursing an injury while Christy Finch was only fit enough for the bench. Both sides came into the game in their relevant League's play off positions and the game took a while to find any rhythm. Gareth Heath and Leon Ottley-Gooch both had sights of goal but saw their efforts well blocked before Pope fired a home free kick well wide. Ashlee Jones then had to hastily recover when the lively Pope looked like getting a run at goal before Barnes fired wide and then Pope again got into a threatening position but was unable to test Ashlee Jones in the Blues goal.
