Game forty three. Just four games now remaining of another exciting season but are they all must win games? Some supporters will say every game is a must win but with regards our play off aspirations, surely we need to win every home game to stand any chance of getting into the play offs don’t we? Both sides this weekend are fighting for different causes at either end of the table so that should lead to a thrilling encounter.

The Sussex based Hillians arrive in Suffolk looking for a huge three points as only goal difference (eleven goals to be precise) separates them from bottom club Tooting & Mitcham with just three games remaining, two of which are away. Only one side will be relegated this season and it could come down to the last game of the season with both themselves and Tooting & Mitcham both away from home although both Harlow Town and Lowestoft Town can’t be discounted from the drama. Earlier in the season the Blues fell to defeat in Sussex with Joe Jefford’s late goal a mere consolation against our hosts ten men.

After a best ever March in the Isthmian Premier Division (77% points won) the Blues will be looking to equal and better some Premier Division records this weekend. A victory will equal the number of home wins of 2015/16 and 2016/17 while a win would not only equal the best run of successive home wins (4) only once ever achieved, but would give the Blues their highest ever points total at this level (75). Three points would also equal our best ever last quarter of an Isthmian League season. A fourth successive home clean sheet would break the previous best record of three at step three.

This will be the sixth meeting between the sides with the Blues winning two to Burgess Hill’s one with two draws. Last season at Victory Road in the August sun the Blues triumphed 2-0 a victory that was emphatically doubled five months later at the Green Elephant Stadium with a 6-0 win with Matt Blake scoring five of the eight goals!

A win for the Blues would certainly put pressure on those clubs in and around the play offs especially with a vital last seven days of the season coming up. A trip to Leatherhead next Saturday followed by home games against Needham Market and Hendon, let’s hope for a thrilling end to the season.
