Match Preview
Game forty six. Well here we are at the end of another season and for the second successive season, all to play for on the final day. Admittedly this season doesn’t hinge on three points like last year at Enfield but the fixture is just as important. The Blues have had a fine run especially at Victory Road, to get into this position and a first ever appearance in the end of season play off’s in our last season at step three in the Isthmian League would be a fantastic reward.

Our visitors this weekend have already secured their play off place with a dramatic stoppage time win at Leatherhead in midweek. It’s been an amazing transformation for Hendon as this time last year they finished just a single point above the relegation spots after a draw at home to Staines coupled with both Canvey Island and Harrow Borough dropping points, meant the North London side survived. They have certainly taken advantage this term with a season spent in and around the top six all season. They are also on a good run of form. Other than a surprise defeat at Lowestoft Town, the Greens have lost just once in ten and included in that run is a penalty shoot out victory over Staines Town to win the Middlesex County Cup and a 4-1 thumping of champions Billericay Town. Former Blues striker Niko Muir has had a fantastic season. After scoring 18 League goals last season he has netted an impressive 32 this time round, bringing attention to professional League clubs.

This weekend sees the twelfth meeting between the sides with Hendon bossing the exchanges winning eight to the Blues three including the last three meetings between the sides. The Blues have fared slightly better in cup meetings winning two FA Trophy ties both at Victory Road while the Greens have tasted FA Cup success over the Blues. In November 2016 Hendon became the first side to win at Victory Road that season with a 3-2 victory while the last meeting between the sides saw Hendon victorious 2-1 at Silver Jubilee Park, the hosts scoring through Walker and Lee in February with a Joe Marsden goal sandwiched in between.

So what about the Blues? Well whatever happens it’s been a fantastic season with further progress being made and of course, a cup final to look forward to. As well as our largest ever points haul we have recorded our most wins in a step three season. Along with a record breaking five successive home wins we also have a record breaking five successive clean sheets to protect. Attendances are up and for the second successive season the Blues are the highest ranked non league club in the county! Well done to everyone.

So we end the season as we began it back in the August sunshine, at home. Hopefully we won’t be saying goodbye to the Isthmian League just yet!
