Game twenty seven and after an indifferent Festive period the Blues will be looking for a winning start in their first home game of 2018. Glen Driver’s side won one and lost two of their three games played although the victory on New Year’s Day at Needham Market certainly made up for the disappointing defeat to Lowestoft Town here at Victory Road last time out. It is good to see the squad back to full strength and competition for places is high as the Blues aim to reach the end of season play off’s for the first time, but will need a better second half to the season than the previous two seasons to achieve that.

This weekend’s visitors Leatherhead will also have eyes on the play off’s and despite sitting in eleventh they are only ten points adrift of the Blues but with five games in hand so this game has an added incentive. Leatherhead had a fantastic run in the FA Cup this season a run that saw them eliminated at League Two Wycombe Wanderers at the Second Round proper stage. They also arrive in Suffolk in red hot form suffering just one defeat in six and winning their last three as they have slowly crept up the Premier Division table. This will be the seventh meeting between the sides with the Tanners currently holding the upper hand winning three times compared to the Blues two with a single draw. In the corresponding fixture last season a solitary Matt Blake goal was enough to claim all the points in the April sunshine while earlier in the season at Fetcham Grove Joe Jefford, Joe Francis and Jack Ainsley were all on target as the Blues looked to be cruising to a 3-0 win with 19 minutes remaining. But goals from Seixas, Sole (pen) and a stoppage time Hughes-Mason goal earned the hosts a point.

The six previous games between these two sides have heralded 20 goals so Blues boss Glen Driver will be hoping his charges will replicate the excellent New Year’s Day display at Suffolk rivals Needham Market as the Blues will look to repeat the start of January 2017 when they won their opening five games of the New Year.
