Game thirty and a first home game for almost a month. In fact, this will be only our second game in 25 days due to the inclement weather so a frustrating time for the Blues but they still remain in and around the battle for the play offs. They will certainly be hoping for a better February than last year when we lost all four games played. Despite the relatively low lack of action the Blues still had a fairly productive January, seven points from a possible twelve isn’t bad considering all those points were collected away from Victory Road but we still find ourselves in ninth spot, our lowest position since March 2016 and lowest position under Glen Driver’s tenure!

Worthing arrive in Suffolk via a 160 mile trip, their second longest of the season behind Lowestoft Town, and smarting from a 4-0 midweek defeat at League leaders Billericay Town. Currently sitting in 21st position they are two points above bottom placed Tooting & Mitcham United but they have made huge strides after a very difficult start to the season. Pitch issues at their Woodside Road meant they had to play ‘home’ games at Bognor Regis Town some seventeen miles away (a bit like us playing home games at Woodbridge Town) and this clearly affected their early form, as they struggled for points. But a return home saw results drastically improve and when the Blues visited back in November, Worthing was one of the form sides of the division. Tuesday night’s defeat in Essex was their second this year (from five games) but they have won five of their last eleven games including wins against Folkestone Invicta and Wingate & Finchley.

This will be the fourth League meeting between the sides with the Blues winning two of the three games played. Last time out Matt Blake’s first half goal earned the Blues a point in Sussex which ended a run of three successive defeats. Last time here at Victory Road two Conor Hubble goals earned the hosts all the points in front of 330 in the late March sunshine. The Blues have also tasted victory at Woodside Road in the FA Trophy, a 3-1 win in October 2015.

Another blank midweek has given the Blues more rest time but they will certainly need it as February brings eight games, four of which will be here at Victory Road. With three of those home games against sides currently above the Blues (Billericay Town, Hendon and Margate) our home form will be vitally important ahead of the final quarter of the season.
