First home points on the board for the Reserves

The Reserves welcomed Wisbech St Mary to Victory Road, trying to get more points on the board after going down 6-2 to Woodbridge Town during the week. The game was very even for the first few minutes, with a lot of the play in the middle of the park. Kevin Inglis nearly gave the hosts the lead after Smith's clearance had landed straight at him but his lobbed effort hit the turf and just went over the top of the crossbar. Harry Burman, who was back into the fold again after serving a three match ban, was booked for a foul as the game began to get a little spicy. Leiston took the lead however when a good move saw Burman go clear with just the keeper to beat and he made no mistake to put the Blues a goal to the good. Moments later, Rick Bowden was booked for a late challenge and he was to receive second yellow when stopping Leiston take a free-kick quickly leaving the visitors a man short. Nicky Shopov shot off target before Adam Blades was brought down by Smith for a penalty on the stroke of half time. Blades making no mistake, slotting low into the keeper's bottom left hand corner.

The supporters had barely taken to their seats in the second half as Toby Groom had an effort well blocked by keeper Smith. Wisbech did have a chance but captain Nick Davey headed over Harry Lay-Fulcher's crossbar. Leiston made the game safe in the 57th minute when a through ball by Kevin Inglis saw Blake Saker race clear and he coolly laid the ball off to Adam Blades who couldn't miss from close range. Groom and Louis Bloom both had chances that went begging before Harry Burman was fouled for Leiston's second penalty of the afternoon. But Adam Blades was denied his hat-trick though as Dan Smith once again clawed his attempt away and then got up to deny Toby Groom from the rebound. Both teams were now making subs, with Leiston comfortable and seeing the game out. Bloom was denied with what looked like an easy goal but credit must go to Smith as he somehow managed to clear for a corner. Harry Knights headed over a corner before Nick Davey could have scored a consolation goal for the visitors but his half volley went over. Overall, a good performance from the Reserves who now have 7 points from their opening 5 matches.
