The Reserves are through to the Suffolk FA Senior Cup Second Round after defeating fellow Thurlow Nunn League Division One side Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves at Victory Road. Star of the afternoon was Harrison Bacon who bagged himself a fourteen minute hat trick late in the second half. Prior to this treble Jac Garrard opened the scoring followed by leading scorer Will Davies adding a second just after half time. Owen Hammond scored a third before Harrison Bacon netted his three goals.
The draw for the second round can be heard on Radio Suffolk on Wednesday evening in the match day programme from 7pm.
The first ten minutes of this encounter was fairly even, with both sides having half chances. Nicky Shopov curled a shot just wide of away keeper Joe Potter, while at the other end Evan Bolt fired a free kick wide. Harry Lay-Fulcher saved Leiston with a decent stop from ex Blue Tyler Dickson, before Leiston took the lead in the 27th minute. Will Davies' through ball split the away defence, and Jac Garrard latched on to the ball to drive into the visitors penalty area to finish past Potter. Harrison Bacon and Josh Cheetham went close, while Will Davies should have done better from a Jac Garrard corner. The Blues maintained the pressure before half time but couldn't get another goal.
Early on in the second half, Will Davies headed against the Felixstowe crossbar, and Potter saved excellently from Harrison Bcon's follow up shot. However, Leiston didn't have long to wait for a goal. Josh Cheetham's strike from distance was parried away by Potter, but Will Davies netted from close range from Harrison Bacon's delivery. Felixstowe had a couple of chances, with Josh Lee hitting his shot straight at Harry Lay-Fulcher before Tyler Dickson rounded Lay-Fulcher but could only divert into the side netting. Jac Garrard let fly from outside the box, with Potter tipping over the bar. The Reserves made the game safe in the 58th minute. A good move down the left flank saw the ball land at the feet of Owen Hammond, and he turned the defender well in the box to shot past Potter. Harrison Bacon netted a fourth in the 76th minute after a good pass from Josh Cheetham. Bacon again was on the scoresheet with two minutes of normal time to go as he took advantage of some hesitant defending. In the final minute of the match, Bacon netted past Potter to grab his hat-trick and Leiston's sixth goal of the game.
The Reserves head to Whitton United on Tuesday night in the League Challenge Cup, before hosting AFC Sudbury Reserves in league action on Saturday at Victory Road.
