Reserves record an early season double

Leiston were missing Kevin Inglis for what was their eighth league match already this season, but welcomed Joe Jefford, Patrick Brothers, Sam Ford and Regan Pelling into the squad.

Regan Pelling had the first chance of the match as he cut in from the left hand side, but his attempt thundered against the crossbar. However, just two minutes later, Leiston would take the lead. After winning the ball, Ryan Sharman did well to guide a ball over the Cornard defender to find Regan Pelling who controlled the ball well and then had time to fire past Daniel Joyce in the away goal. Leiston forced another corner which Blake Saker managed to glance towards goal, with Louie Bloom then touching over. Louis Bloom had a shot on target that was straight at Joyce and Joyce did well moments later to palm a Patrick Brothers free kick round a post. Regan Pelling then had an effort that went past a post. Joe Jefford was on hand to clear away a rare Cornard attack at the other end. Just after the half hour mark, Joe Jefford met a cross to see his header well saved by Joyce, but Louie Bloom was there to put in the re-bound. Cornard won a free kick outside the Leiston area, but Charlie Knight's strike was high and wide. Just before the interval, Leiston added a third goal when Ryan Sharman went past two defenders before smashing high into the keeper's top right hand corner. There was time for Sam Ford to be booked for blocking a free kick before the half time whistle.

Leiston could have added a fourth just ninety seconds into the second half. Sam Ford took a quick free kick to put in Louie Bloom and he looked up to find Regan Pelling but he fired over. David Dowding had a headed chance for the away side but Harry Lay-Fulcher made a smart stop in the home goal. Patrick Brothers had a good run and curling shot that went wide before good play by Harry Burman saw his cross put over his own bar by visiting captain Luke Edwards. Leiston were still in control of the match although Cornard were battling bravely for each other. Patrick Brothers released Regan Pelling but his shot was well saved by again by Joyce. A little later, Sam Ford saw his chance deflected wide. Both teams were had now made all their subs as the match was drawing to a conclusion. Substitute Ozase Enahoro had a shot from distance that Harry Lay-Fulcher easily dealt with, but Leiston would add a fourth goal. Another good move into the area saw Sam Ford swivel and quickly hit the ball that gave Joyce no chance. Matt Oliver could have made it five late on but Joyce again was there save Cornard. In the second minute of added on time, David Dowding was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the 18 yard box and Regan Pelling side footed home the resultant penalty to make it a nap hand for the Reserves on the night.
