Injury hit Reserves suffer heavy defeat on their travels
A much numerically depleted side took to the field on a crisp, sunny afternoon. A combination of first team call ups, injuries and non availability meant we started with the bare eleven, one of whom Louie Bloom was suffering from a hamstring strain and could hardly walk let alone run. Despite this we had the first chance of the game when an interchange of several passes eventually found Lewis Bell on the edge of the penalty area. Unfortunately his well hit shot was too close to the goalkeeper who saved comfortably. The host’s goalscoring started shortly after this when an unmarked forward had time and space to place his shot from the edge of the penalty area into our goal. The next quarter of an hour was relatively uneventful with neither side creating any clear opportunities. This was followed by two goals in the space of five minutes, the first from a header which looped over Charlie Beckwith into the net as a result of a dubious free kick. The second came after another Lewis Bell shot was charged down on the edge of the penalty area and a quick break saw us short at the back allowing an easy shot on target. As the half moved towards the final five minutes there was a long delay for treatment to Charlie Beckwith who had been injured in clearing the cross from a corner. With no substitutes available he had no option but to carry on. The fourth goal was a repeat of the third with a Toby Groom volley being saved and quickly distributed. A fifth followed just before the half time whistle.
The second half started with Lewis Bell again calling the goalkeeper into action and Charlie Beckwith saving well at the other end despite his injury. The next twenty minutes was very much a repeat of much of the first half with Norwich CBS having the lion’s share of possession without creating any further chances. However with twenty minutes remaining Charlie Beckwith was called into action again and made another good save. The resulting clearance saw a penalty claim for a foul on Adam Blades denied by the referee. This was immediately followed by a scramble in our penalty area which under normal circumstance Charlie Beckwith would have cleared but with his restricted movement only led to a sixth goal. The seventh and eight goals in the closing moments were a mirror image of each other. One low cross from the right squeezing in at the far post, the other from the left doing the same.
