Reserves 3 Downham Town 2
Reserves end their season with a win
Leiston Reserves won their final game of the season after a 3-2 win at Victory Road against a decent Downham Town outfit.
A very bitty first period saw both teams struggle to get any fluency in their game. Harry Knights had the first chance of the contest, but his strike was well wide of away custodian Matt Cape’s left hand post. Matt Bussens and Matt Calvert saw strikes go wide of Charlie Beckwith’s goal before Kyle Cassell’s effort was deflected just wide of Cape’s left hand post. In a half low on chances, it was the young Blues who made the break through on 40 minutes as Kyle Cassell smashed home after Harry Knights’ free kick wasn’t cleared.
The second half however was much better. Matt Rutterford had an opportunity to double the lead but he fluffed his lines when in front of goal. From this, Downham played in Simon Bird to poke the ball beyond Charlie Beckwith to equalise for the Norfolk club. Charlie Beckwith then handled well from sub Karl Tansley and moments later pushed Andy Roseblade’s strike away while Josh Cheetham shot just wide of Cape’s left hand post. Tansley headed against the crossbar for Downham but the same player netted from close range moments later to give the visitors the lead. Josh Cheetham had an attempt well saved by Cape but Leiston levelled in the 69th minute. A well worked moved down the left ended with Matt Rutterford firing home to give Cape no chance. Seven minutes later, Leiston took the lead. Paris Tuwizana's smart turn just inside the area saw him rifling into the roof of the net. The Blues defended well late on to restrict Downham to half chances as they saw the game out well. They finish in 12th place (out of 21 teams) with no further games to be played this season.
