Leiston Reserves 0-8 Harleston Town - Match Report
By Craig Cooper
Young Blues side go down to Norfolk leaders
The Reserves came into this match full of confidence after a resounding 6-2 win against Haverhill Borough last weekend.
Harleston took the lead in just the 8th minute. Ex Blues player Nathan Stone got away from his marker and fired in a shot that Finlay Noon could only parry and Kyle Baker tucked in the rebound. The Reserves first chance in the match came when Toby Groom crossed from the right hand side and Michael Carrigan headed wide. Nathan Russell then forged a good run down the left flank, driving into the area but young keeper Finlay Noon saved his effort. Lawrence Cheese doubled the visitors lead on 19 minutes, running through the Leiston defence to slot into Noon's bottom right hand corner. Just three minutes later, and the away team scored again when a well worked move was delivered into the box and Nathan Stone netted from close range. Jac Garrard had an attempt deflected just over on the edge of the box for the Blues, but from a corner, Harleston netted again when Jake Anema fired an shot in.
Anema was in the thick of the action at the start of the second period, but his shot inside the box went just wide. Lawrence Cheese scored Harleston's fifth goal, initially hitting the woodwork but then placing in the loose ball. Leiston were done once again by a through ball moments later, with Cheese scoring his hat-trick. Leiston had some good chances themselves through Chris Alcock and Louie Bloom, but Nathan Stone grabbed the last two goals, the second a penalty to keep the Norfolk club top of the table.
The Reserves remain 12th after this result, and now don't play again until a week on Saturday when they entertain Ipswich Wanderers.
