The Reserves produced a decent performance against Lakenheath as the Suffolk club visited Victory Road for the first time in their history.
Early on, Owen Hammond challenged for a ball with Frank Gammon in the away goal and the loose ball nearly fell to Mason Sinclair but Gammon got up well to claim the ball. Gammon claimed a Hammond corner moments later before Harrison Bacon limped off with an injury in the 18th minute with Zac Gissing replacing him. Witness Mhango had an effort blocked and the young player, who was making his debut, lobbed the ball over the crossbar after good work by Hammond. Joe Potter made a good save with his legs as half time approached, but it was the away side who took the lead in the 44th minute as Kelvin Enaro put in from close range. In fact the midfielder could have made it two in first half stoppage time but he fired wide with just Potter to beat.
Reece Clarke hit Potter’s left hand post just two minutes into the second period for Lakenheath while Dean Grogan headed over a corner as the visitors started the half brightly. Joe Potter turned away a shot from distance as far only as Shaun Avis and he slotted home the rebound to double Lakenheath’s lead. Owen Hammond’s free kick whistled over the away goal while Zac Gissing headed wide. Mason Sinclair had a great chance to reduce arraears but shot wide of Gammon’s left hand post. The Reserves were handed a lifeline though when referee Charles Bowen deemed an away player to handle in the box and Owen Hammond made no mistake from the spot. Potter then saved well from Avis and dealt with a couple of corners before handling Clarke’s free kick well. A mistake at the back let in Aaron Turner who made it three for Lakenheath, but soon after kick off Michael Carrigan smashed the ball into the net to score Leiston’s second, but it was too little too late.
The Reserves now host Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves at home on Tuesday evening.
