Reserves go down to Sheringham on a hot afternoon

The Reserves began the weekend’s match against Sheringham FC full of confidence after a 3-2 home win against Framlingham Town last Saturday. Tom Woerndl was given a start at left back to get game time.

The Blues started the game reasonably well and passed the ball around well without creating too much. Jourdan Kiwomya fired wide early on for Leiston, but it was Sheringham who took the lead in the 12th minute when a ball into the box saw Joe Potter save from the original effort but Conner Kerry put home the loose ball. Harrison Bacon had an attempt that looped into the arms of goalkeeper Liam Davies as Leiston found chances hard to come by. A great piece of play by Ben Boyce on the left saw him thread a great ball through to Ashley Jarvis and he forced Potter into a save to his left. Meanwhile at the other end, George Tuck shot just wide on the edge of the area. Just before the break it looked as though the Norfolk side were going to double their lead but Potter blocked Jarvis’ strike and Callum Pearce cleared the spinning ball off the goal line.

Boyce was off target in the first chance of the second period while Jourdan Kiwonya’s great run allowed him to pull the ball back to Ben Stannard who shot just past Davies right hand post. It was Sheringham who would go on to score the second goal and go further ahead as Tim Cary netted a good team move. Sub Kion Parchmont was sent off just seconds after coming on for the Blues after a challenge on a Sheringham player and Ashley Jarvis then made it three and finish the match. Leiston didn’t give up as both teams started to make changes. Away captain George Abbott headed in number four from a corner and Potter saved well from Jarvis with time running out. Sheringham added their fifth and final goal in the 85th minute when Jarvis again was on target.

The Reserves host Bramford United next weekend in the Suffolk Senior Cup 1st Round, in a 3 o’clock kick off.
