Leiston Reserves 3-1 Debenham LC - Match Report

Leiston Reserves defeated Debenham LC in their final game of 2019 after a 3-1 win at home that keeps them in 14th place.

George Keys, Josh Hitter, Mason Sinclair and Will Davies all started for the Blues.

Debenham started the match well before Mason Sinclair crossed into the penalty area and Will Davies couldn’t convert. Sam Cole’s fierce effort on the edge of the box was well saved by the legs of Joe Potter but Debenham did take the lead in the 13th minute as good work by MARCUS TAYLOR ended with the player dribbling around Potter to shoot into the keepers top right hand corner. However, just four minutes later, Mason Sinclair’s run and shot was deflected over the crossbar and from the resultant corner SAM ALLEN fired home the loose ball after Debenham failed to clear the lines. Will Davies went through moments later and put the ball wide of the post with Ash Wilding unable to get on the end of it. The away side forced some corners but JOSH HITTER put the Blues back in front with a great strike into Sam Chilvers top right hand corner in the 25th minute from 35 yards out. Just seven minutes later and the Reserves made it three as JAC GARRARD got down the right flank to send a cross over Chilvers and into his right hand corner. Ben Stannard and Will Davies sent strikes off target before the half was out, while Marcus Taylor was given a sin bin for Debenham right at the end of the first period.

In the second minute of the second half, Debenham could have pulled a goal back but Joe Potter made a good save and Leiston cleared any danger. Potter then fumbled a cross on the hour mark but Debenham couldn’t capitalise while at the other end, Josh Hitter failed to test Chilvers after a good diagonal ball by Mason Sinclair but he shot well over the crossbar. In a half starved of real chances, the Blues defence kept out Debenham. Potter got well down to his left to keep out an effort as the Blues saw out three minutes of added on time to claim the three points.

They now look forward to a home game this coming Saturday as Mulbarton Wanderers visit.
