Leiston gain a first point on the road this season

The Blues secured their first away point of the season at Berkhamsted in what was a first ever meeting between the two sides.
Spencer Keller (injured) missed out so in came Eddie Jackson and new signing Kieran Higgs came into the squad. Ryan Jarvis started in place of defender Wyatt Hill.
Leiston were the more dominant team in the first period, this was before Sam Donkin was harshly booked for kicking the ball away in the 12th minute. Soon after and Ollie Saunders and Ross Crane had chances while
Jordon Frederick tried his luck on the edge of the box with a half volley but it was straight at Donkin. Ollie Saunders struck a shot over the bar before captain Seb Dunbar went close with a delivery that went just over Jamie Head’s left hand upright. Joe Marsden and Ollie Saunders combined on the right that saw Jamar Loza hit a stinging strike that was well blocked. An every better chance occurred for the Blues, who were playing in red on 28 minutes, as this time Marsden and Eddie Jackson linked up on the right with Ross Crane unable to get a touch inside the area. Kyal Williams cut inside from the left on 38 minutes for the hosts and curled an attempt on target that Donkin did well to save to his left. Late on in the half, Max Bustamante MacAire shot well wide when well placed while Loza forced Head into a fine stop to his right.

Both sides made attacking changes at the break and Joe Marsden struck wide 40 seconds into the half while sun Nathan Frater struck a free kick off target on 50 minutes. Crane forced another good save from Head moments later as both teams were both intent on going for the points. Daniel Newton shot over while sun Wyatt Hill did well to force a header onto his own bar. Anthony Ball headed straight at Donkin after an hour. Crane again was denied by Head after Leiston won a corner while Leiston had a great chance on 69 minutes but Kieran Higgs shot just wide of Head’s left hand post. The game ebbed and flowed for the last twenty minutes, with Berkhamsted having a penalty appeal waved away and players from either side were booked. Joe Marsden’s free kick was saved by Head before the referee brought the game to an end after eight minutes of stoppage time.

Leiston performed well on the night and defended well to take a point back to Suffolk. They host Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday (3pm kick off).
