BLUES ‘keeper, Billy Johnson, has said a quick turnaround of games is just what his side need after Saturday’s 3-4 home defeat to Barwell.
Leiston head to Biggleswade Town on Tuesday night in another Southern League Premier Central clash (7.45pm ko), looking to put right the weekend’s defeat and get themselves back in the play-off hunt.
Having slipped to eighth after the Barwell loss, Tuesday night is the Blues game in hand on some teams above them – victory would move them up a place and leave them three points off Stamford who sit in the final play-off place.
And while on paper heading to a Biggleswade side who are currently propping up the table maybe considered by some to be a comfortable three points, Johnson knows different.
“Every week, every game, you go into it knowing it is going to be a battle,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the top teams or the bottom teams, it’s going to be a contest and Biggleswade will be exactly that.
“Yes, we’ve looked at the table, it is still so tight. We have this game in hand on a couple of teams above us and the Biggleswade game, if we were to get the three points, puts us right back in the final push to the end of the season.
“We know it will not be an easy task. You can’t take any league position a team is in for granted.”
BLUES ANNOUNCE NEW SPONSORSHIP PARTNERSHIP
Reflecting on a disappointing loss to Barwell, despite a spirited comeback from 0-3 down and down to 10-men, Johnson said he and his team-mates weren’t at their best.
“It was a big feeling of disappointment,” he said. “It felt like it needed us to go down to 10 men to give it a real go in the game.
“When you score three goals at home you like to think you come away with the three points, but that wasn’t to be.
“A lot of us will look and say we weren’t at our best as a team and individually, but now we are looking forward to putting it right with the quick turnaround at Biggleswade.”
On Saturday, the team head to Alvechurch for another league clash
Meanwhile, a Race Night on Saturday at the club, which was attended by many fans and the first team squad and management, proved a big success, with money raised going not just to Club funds, but also to the Club’s chosen charity, Leiston First Responders.
