LEISTON are pleased to announce the signing of teenage midfielder, Billy Walsh.

The 19-year-old former Colchester United, AFC Sudbury and Aldershot midfielder has joined Chris Wigger’s Blues and can’t wait to show the Leiston fans what he can do.

“Coming to Leiston has all sounded very positive from the moment we first began to talk,” Billy, pictured alongside Leiston boss Chris Wigger, said.

“On speaking to Chris (Wigger), the club sounds good and the way they want me to play next season sounds good.

“I’m really looking forward to the season. I’ve had a look round the ground and the pitch looks great, the whole place looks good, and I can’t wait to get out onto that pitch.”

So, what can Leiston fans expect from Billy?

“I like to break up play, I like a challenge, but I also like going forwards and creating for the strikers,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get going. This is a great opportunity for me.”

Blues boss Wigger said of his new signing.

“We’ve tracked Billy for a while. He was at Colchester and had a bit of time at Aldershot, learning his trade, training full-time which is fantastic. But what Billy needs is lots and lots of game time and he’s going to get that opportunity with us.

“I speak to a lot of players at this time of the season. Billy was so straightforward, which is refreshing, and tells me he really wants to be at this football club.

“I think we’ve got a really good player here, he has a terrific attitude and wants to progress and push forward with his career, and we’re going to give him those building blocks to do that.

“I’m looking for him to grow and develop as a player. He’s got a real eye for a pass, he can break stuff up as well, he has a durability to his game.

“I think Billy sees himself as a bit of a holding player, but we see him as having the potential to go box to box. That’s invaluable in the game today, and the way we play, and I think it’s going to be exciting times ahead for him.”

The Blues begin their pre-season next month. Their full pre-season schedule is here.
