Leiston come out on top on five goal thriller

Will Davies struck an 89th-minute winner as Leiston kept up the pressure at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Central Premier.

In an exciting game, with two penalties, Adam Mills opened the scoring after just 32 seconds for the Blues in an explosive opening, the midfielder netting from a diving header inside the box from George Quantrell’s delivery from the right hand side.

Leiston created more chances but the second goal didn’t come until the 34th minutes, with Sam Donkin, Mills and Quantrell all linking up to supply the ball to Davies who drove into the area and fire into Taylor’s bottom left hand corner.

Bromsgrove really gave the Blues a scare after the interval, and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on 56 minutes through Brandon Smalley whilst Finlay Barnes had a penalty saved by Taylor shortly after. On 68 minutes though, Tristan Dunkley headed home from inside the area from a corner to restore parity.

Leiston, however, kept going and went close on two or three occasions in the last ten minutes, but Davies turned home Ben Fowkes’ cross from the left on 89 minutes from six yards to seal the win!

There was still time for Donkin to make two good saves in six minutes of added-time as the Blues remain in second place.
