THE Blues are going to stage both this season’s JLS Catering Group Suffolk Senior Cup semi-finals on the same day, in what chairman Andy Crisp described as 'an honour'.
Leiston will host both semi-finals at the Flannery Stadium on Saturday, April 25th. The first time it is believed that one club will have done so.
Gateway 14 SIL Premier Division side Haughley United will meet Mutford & Wrentham of the Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Premier Division at 12 noon in the first semi.
That will then be followed by Henley Athletic of the SIL Premier Division versus Thurlow Nunn League Division One North opponents Halesworth Town at 4pm.
Leiston FC Chair Andy Crisp said: “It's an honour for us to stage the Suffolk Senior Cup Semi-Finals ‘double-header’ at Leiston.
“The logistics of all four teams lend themselves to play here at the Flannery Stadium. We look forward to hosting this special day for the county.
"All four clubs and their fans, players and management will receive our usual excellent Leiston hospitality, and we will prepare accordingly to ensure the day is an enjoyable one for all our visitors from around the county.”
Suffolk County Cups Manager Adrian Moye explained why the semi-finals had been moved from the original weekend of March 6th and 7th and why one ground is being used for both matches.
He said: “This year the weather has been problematic and coupled with cup runs both in the county and nationally, Suffolk FA have whenever possible allowed the league programme to take priority ensuring that there are enough dates in the calendar to complete the fixtures by the end date of the season.
“The Senior Cup has had its share of delays this season with the weather and unfortunately an abandonment through player injury. We have therefore moved the Senior Cup Semi Finals to Saturday April 25th and will be staging both games at Leiston FC, a venue renowned for the excellent welcome that teams and supporters receive and one that is geographically sensitive to all four clubs as much as that can ever be possible.
“Suffolk FA is fortunate enough to have several clubs with excellent facilities and a group of people that support their clubs’ efforts, so to have two Senior Cup Semi-Finals at Leiston should be a great event for all participants.
“With kick-off times of 12 noon and 4pm, the interest in both games should be high and I’m looking forward to two terrific contests between four clubs that will all think they have a chance of winning one of the most fiercely-contested cup competitions Suffolk FA has to offer.”
Leiston's first team are at Alvechurch on April 25, while the under 23’s will have finished their league season.
Information regarding ticket sales will be advertised in due course.
